    About Us

AbleLight, Inc. is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live fulfilling, meaningful lives. With roots reaching back to 1904, AbleLight began as a small Christian mission in Wisconsin and has since grown into a leading provider of life-changing support services across multiple states, including California. Its Mission Viejo office serves as a regional hub for connecting individuals and families in Orange County with comprehensive residential, community, and employment programs.
Guided by a mission founded on Christian love and compassion, AbleLight envisions a world where all people with developmental disabilities are “loved, secure, and flourishing in their communities.” The organization’s values emphasize dignity, respect, inclusion, and the inherent worth of every individual, driving its work to create supportive environments where people can achieve their goals and participate fully in community life.
AbleLight’s services are person-centered and tailored to each individual’s needs, spanning a wide range of life domains. These include congregate living and group homes, where residents receive 24/7 supportive care in safe, structured settings; shared living programs that match individuals with caring host families in home-like environments; and supported living services that help people live independently while receiving individualized assistance. The organization also provides employment supports, helping individuals identify career goals, gain job skills, navigate the hiring process, and access ongoing job coaching to promote long-term success and financial independence.
In California, AbleLight’s services extend across several counties, offering housing options, coordinated family support, and independent living services that foster autonomy and strengthen community connections. Through these programs, the organization helps people build social skills, develop life skills, and enjoy meaningful roles in everyday community life.
Beyond direct care, AbleLight is known for its advocacy and awareness efforts, working to reduce stigma and increase opportunities for people with disabilities. The team in Mission Viejo collaborates with families, caregivers, local agencies, and employers to ensure that individuals have access to the resources and support they need to thrive. AbleLight’s holistic, compassionate approach has positively impacted thousands of lives and continues to inspire communities to embrace diversity, inclusion, and dignity for all.
