About Us

Propel America is a nonprofit organization focused on creating accessible pathways to education, career training, and economic mobility for young adults. Through its innovative “jobs-first higher education” model, Propel helps participants move efficiently from high school into in-demand healthcare careers while gaining industry credentials and college credit. The organization currently operates programs in several communities, including Los Angeles, California.

Propel America’s Fellowship provides young adults with tuition-free, career-focused training designed to prepare them for stable, thriving-wage careers in healthcare. Participants receive individualized support from a personal career coach, professional development, technical training, and assistance navigating the transition from education to employment. Depending on the program and location, career pathways include Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant Apprentice, Sterile Processing Technician, and other healthcare roles.

In Los Angeles, Propel offers Medical Assistant training and a Medical Assistant Apprenticeship pathway. The training program combines online coursework, hands-on skills training, clinical experience, career coaching, and preparation for industry certification. Participants can also receive financial support during training, and Propel works with healthcare employers to create direct pathways into employment.

A key component of Propel America's approach is continued support. Fellows receive one-on-one coaching throughout their training and additional assistance during their job search and after completing their program. Propel also works directly with healthcare employers to develop local talent pipelines and connect trained participants with employment opportunities.

By combining education, professional development, career coaching, and employer connections, Propel America helps remove financial and structural barriers that can prevent young adults from accessing meaningful careers. The organization is committed to educational equity and to creating practical pathways that allow participants to build skills, earn credentials, enter the workforce, and continue advancing their careers.
