    About Us

Parentis Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening Orange County’s future workforce by improving childhood literacy through its Empowering Readers OC program. We partner trained older adult mentors with struggling readers in 1st–5th grade to help children build the literacy skills, confidence, and motivation needed for long-term academic and life success.

Research shows that children not reading proficiently by the end of third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma—directly impacting future workforce readiness and economic stability. Empowering Readers OC addresses this challenge through consistent one-on-one and small-group reading support provided in local schools and community sites.
Our intergenerational model delivers measurable educational and social impact: students improve reading fluency and comprehension while older adults gain meaningful opportunities to stay engaged and connected to the community.

By investing in Empowering Readers OC, businesses help create stronger readers, stronger schools, and a stronger talent pipeline for Orange County’s future. Together, we are building a more literate, connected, and economically resilient community—one child at a time.
